Day 1: – Kochi (Cochin)
Welcome to Kochi or the ‘Queen of Arabian Sea’. On arrival Kochi at any time you are traditionally welcome and our tour representative transfers you to the hotel (check-in time is 12.00 midday). Freshen up and relax at the hotel and enjoy the city. Here you will meet your fellow group members to go over the details of your trip. Check the notice board to see what time and where the group meeting will be held. Kochi or Cochin is located in the South Western Coast of the Indian Subcontinent. It is an exciting city and is also referred to as the Gateway to Kerala. It is a small town situated in the Ernakulum district of Kerala. The city is bordered by the Western Ghats in the East and the Arabian Sea in the West. Kochi is renowned for its beautiful gold designer jewellery and is also home to the Dutch Palace (Mattancherry), Jew Town with its temple and the Fort itself. On this amazing tour of this small town, walk along its streets and search all its highlights, coconut tress reflected in the light, waters of backwaters, ancient churches, fort, Chinese fishing nets, Dutch buildings, Bolghatty Palac and Cherai Beach, Portuguese artistic and British monuments. Watch the sunset from the tip of Fort Kochi where you will spot the old cantilevered fishing nets, brought from China, in Malayalam they’re called ‘cheena vala’.Later evening return to your hotel enjoy meal and stay overnight.
Day 2: Allepey
This morning we travel to Allepey, Arrive Alleppey and check in at Houseboat and enjoy cruise cum stay in your houseboat. Alappuzha or Alleppy is labelled as the Venice of the East. Alappuzha, meaning the land between the sea and a network of rivers falling into it, recall a sense of romance and beauty. Allepey a golden streak of land woven with rivers, lakes, lagoons and canals. Alappuzha has a lighthouse, where you can enjoy view of Alleppey coast from above the lighthouse. The white sand beach is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sea and sun. It is also home to Kuttanad, The rice bowl of kerala, one of the very few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. In the afternoon, we explore the Vembanad Lake, an attractive picnic spot and fast developing backwaters, provide boating, fishing and continue our explorations by boat along winding backwaters seeing Keralan life in its entire colour and as the sun goes down you will be entertained by the boatmen singing traditional songs. Tonight you will sleep in a home stay in the backwaters this offers you the opportunity of talking and interacting with the local families, learning about life in the islands and dining on traditional local cuisine.
Day 3 – 4: Periyar Tiger Reserve
This morning drive to Periyar. On arrival transfer to your hotel. The Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary one of India’s most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, where you can watch wildlife at close range. The vegetation, the flora and fauna and the birds of Thekkady are uniquely rich, and one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the banks of the Periyar Lake, an artificial lake, at Thekkady and Periyar is part of Project Tiger, a wildlife preservation project designed to protect Royal Bengal Tigers from extinction. The park is also home to 62 different kinds of mammal. The most well known of these are the park’s famous herds of wild Asiatic elephants, which often come to bathe in Periyar lake. In the afternoon we head out to a spice plantation to learn amongst other things, how cardamom and pepper grow and experience the mind bowing view of calm crystal clear Periyar Lake to view the wildlife. Bamboo rafting and trekking, this is another unique activity in the Periyar National Park, where you can take a hiking and rafting trip through the deep jungles of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and also visit Periyar National Park, situated in the hills of the Western Ghats. Return to the houseboats hotels, enjoy food and stay overnight.
Day 5: Varkala
Early morning drive to Varkala. On arrival you will be transfer to hotel. Varkela a temple town, is also known for its landscape, located in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is famous for its sea beach getaway and mineral water springs. No Kerala tour is complete without a stop-off at the beautiful beaches of Varkala.The silvery stretches of sands along the Arabian Sea offer a placid destination for the beach lovers. The sunset at Varakala Beach is truly breathtaking with the sun sinking into the sky like a ball of molten gold as the sun. Catch some rays on the beach or enjoy a refreshing coconut drink at one of the many cliff-top cafes. In the evening Spend time wandering the peaceful gardens of an ashram devoted to Kerala’s most eminent spiritual and social reformer and the mystical Janardhana Swamy Temple, or just head to the beach to relax and watch the Arabian Sea. Returns to your hotel enjoy delicious meal and stay overnight.
Day 6: Varkala
Enjoy another purifying morning in scenic town of Varkala. Visit the ancient Janardhana temple it is at the cliff top where most of the hotels and restaurants are located. Sivagiri Mautt, is located just 3kms away from the Janardana Temple,Varkala Tunnel, The 924ft tunnel .Kappil Lake, the lake gives way to the beautiful world of the Kerala backwaters. Also enjoy an elephant ride down the village roads. Return to the hotel for meal and stay overnight.
Day 7: Kochi (Cochin)
This morning we take train from Varkala to Cochin where the trip ends upon arrival at the Kochi (Cochin) train station. In the free time you can explore Cochin once again.
