Central India Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive – Mumbai
Meet and greet at the airport by Carmel representative and transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02: Mumbai – Aurangabad (Flight)
Morning departure transfer to airport for flight to Aurangabad. On arrival meet and transfer to hotel. Afternoon excursion to Ellora caves (Closed on Tuesday) situated around a hill the caves contain elaborate carvings of gods and goddesses representing three of the main faiths of ancient India – Buddhist, Hindu and Jain. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Aurangabad
This morning drive the 106kms from Aurangabad to visit the Ajanta Caves. Ajanta Caves Ajanta Caves These caves, which precede those at Ellora and date from about 200 BC to 650 AD, are cut from the volcanic lavas of the Deccan Trap and form part of a steep wooded hillside deep in the Sahyadri Hills. Day 04: Aurangabad – Maheshwar ( 315 Kms/07 hrs)
Early this morning leave Aurangabad for the drive north to Maheshwar. Arrive and check in at hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 05: Maheshwar
After breakfast proceed for city tour of Maheshwar. Explore the fort and walk down to the riverside to the beautiful ghats where you can watch the daily rituals of the ordinary local villagers. Maheshwar is a town revered by followers of Lord Shiva and the most important temples worth visiting are the Kaleshwara, Rajarajeshwara, Vithaleshwara and the Akhileshwar. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06: Maheshwar – Mandu (Surface: 40 Kms /01 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Mandu. Upon arrival check in at hotel. Later proceed for city tour of Mandu including visit to Jami Masjid – Built in 1454, the most majestic building in Mandu. It is designed after the Omayyed Mosque of Damascus. The best view of this monument is from the Ashrafi Mahal rising in front of it. Jahaz Mahal – It is one of the most popular monuments in Mandu, this ship-like structure was erected by Ghiyas-ud-din, son of Mohammed Shah, for his harem. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 07: Mandu – Indore (Surface: 120 Kms/03 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Indore. Upon arrival check in at hotel. Later proceed for city tour of Indore including visit to Central Museum, the Indore Museum houses the finest collection of Parmar sculptures from Hinglajgarh. The Parmar style originated here, and is characterized by proportioned figures, carefully and ornately depicted in stone. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 08: Indore – Bhopal (Surface: 200 Kms/05 hrs)
After breakfast drive east to the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, which is spread over seven hills and is named after its 11th Century founder Raja Bhoja. On arrival check into the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 09: Bhopal
Today visit Sanchi, Sanchi Stupa Sanchi Stupa the oldest surviving Buddhist sanctuary, and principal centre for Buddhism in India until the 12th Century. Dating back to the 2nd Century BC, Sanchi was a principle centre of Buddhism in India consists of stupas, monolithic pillars, temples and monasteries. A world heritage site, Sanchi is one of the greatest examples of Buddhist art and architecture in India. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 10: Bhopal – Jhansi – Orchha
In the afternoon transfer to Railway Station to join the Shatabdi Express for the three hour journey north to Jhansi. Arrive Jhansi and drive to Orchha. Upon arrival check in at hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 11: Orchha – Khajuraho ( 165 Kms/04 hrs)
Morning after having breakfast visit to Chatris temples – Memorials to the rulers of Orchha grouped along the kanchan ghat of the river Betwa. The 14 Chattries were constructed as a mark of respect for the imperial blue blood of the mighty rulers of Bundelkhand dynasty. Thereafter visit Jahangir Mahal and other attractions. Afternoon drive to Khajuraho. Upon arrival check in at hotel. overnight at the hotel.
Day 12: Khajurhao – Varanasi (Flight)
Morning visit the Western & Eastern group of temples. The magnificent temples built by the Chandela kings. They are divided into three – eastern, western and southern groups. The largest temple is Kandariay dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temples known for their erotic sculpture are world famous. Afternoon departure transfer to airport for flight to Varanasi. On arrival check into the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 13: Varanasi
Early morning boat ride on the Varanasi Ghat Varanasi Ghat Ganges to view the sunrise and witness the pilgrims who gather to perform their religious rituals along the banks of the river. Visit the Bharat Mata Temple and the Durga Temple, which dates from the 18th Century and is painted ochre red. Later proceed for excursion of SARNATH, a Major Buddhisst centre., Lord Buddha preached his first sermon here. In around 234 BC, Emperor Ashoka, a great follower of Buddhism, erected a STUPA here. Between the 3rd century BC and the 11th century AD, several Buddhist structures were built here in Sarnath. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 14: Varanasi – Delhi (Flight)
Morning departure transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. Later proceed for city tour of Old Delhi, built in the first half of the 17th Century by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan this old city is still a dense network of overcrowded homes. Rikshaw ride through the Chandni Chowk, a bustling thoroughfare of shops craftsmen’s workshops, mosques and temples. Also visit Jama Masjid, Rajghat, the cremation place of Mahatma Gandhi. Later drive south to New Delhi designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in a combination of western and eastern styles. Proceed up to Rashtrapati Bhavan once the Viceroy’s abode but now the official residence of the President of India and then across to the eastern end of the Rajpath to the imposing India Gate. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 15: Depart Delhi
Morning transferred to the airport to board the flight for your onward destination.
