Kovalam, a beach town and dreamland of tourists is situated by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India. Kovalam beach is known as the 'Paradise of the South' which captures the soul of Kerala. Kovalam is an evergreen and nice climatic beach resort which creates a unique water colour on moonlit nights.

The Maharajah of Travancore plays an important role in the history of Kovalam. The king loved this place and use to spend his relaxation time there. During the British reign, the European guests of the king came to know about the spot and this place was made popular by the European visitor, who found it impressive and decided to promote tourism in its different locations. Kovalam was in its peak of popularity during the 1970s when the Hippies arrived in Kovalam.

Pozhikkara Beach
Pozhikkara Beach, Pachalloor it is one of the most important tourist attraction near Kovalam. This is the place where the backwater meets the sea.

Halcyon Castle
The Halcyon Castle was built in 1932 by the regent, M.R. Sri Rama Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran, consort of Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi. It showcases the traditional Kerala architecture and style.

Vizhinjam Fishing Harbour
This beach is situated 4.7 km away from Kovalam, in the coastal town of Vizhinjam. The area around the beach is dotted with several Ayurvedic treatment centres, where Ayurvedic massages and treatments are available.

Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium
Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium is situated at Vizhinjam, which is an important fishing port in Kerala. Visitors to the aquarium can see lionfish, giant turtles, surgeonfish, triggerfish, piranhas and sharks.

Hawa Beach
Hawa Beach is the most popular of the three beaches of Kovalam. Tourists can be seen sunbathing and getting herbal massages at this beach.

Vellayani Lake
Vellayani Lake is a fresh water lake, Located about 7 km away from Kovalam. Covering an area of 7.5 sq km, this lake is the largest freshwater lake in Thiruvananthapuram District.

Lighthouse Beach
Out of the three beaches of Kovalam, Lighthouse Beach is the largest. It is located along the Malabar Coast. This beach is named after a 30 metre high lighthouse stands at the southern end of this beach.

Samudra Beach
This beach is popular among both Indian as well as international tourists. It is just 4 km north of Kovalam.Numerous basic wooden fishing vessels can be seen near the beach.

Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave
Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave is a historic spot, which is located just 1 km away from Kovalam in the seaside village Vizhinjam. A temple dedicated to Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi is housed within the cave.

Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple
This temple is based on the banks of River Karamana. This temple is the only temple in the world that is dedicated to Lord Parasurama, who is believed to be the mythological creator of Kerala.

Kovalam has a tropical dry climate. Summers (March to May) are hot and the temperature varies from a minimum of 20°C to a maximum of 36°C. Winters (November to February) are pleasant and have moderate temperature varying from 16°C to 34°C.
